Today in Port St. Maarten: Mega Yacht Faith

St. Maarten Ship Report: Faith

With large mega yacht marinas like IGY Marinas, Port de Plaisance Marina, Cruise Port St. Maarten and next door Dock Maarten, destination St. Maarten has a vast capacity for the biggest yachts in the world. In addition to the great sea-air connection with Princess Juliana International Airport and many port facilities for crews, passengers are attracted to the many things to do on island. Once a week we highlight one of the most famous cruise ships and mega yachts visiting the ports for some interesting backgrounds. Todays choice for some extra insights is mega yacht Siren. When seeing this colossus in port, did you know that…

1. Faith is part of a famous mega yacht brand

97 Meter Faith was built in 2017 at Feadship in Makkum in the Dutch province of Fryslan, a town also being famous for its Delft Blue type pottery industry. Feadship is one of the most famous mega yacht brands in the world.

2. Faith had an early refit for extra wellness

After its launch and trial run, owners had Faith return to base Makkum for a refit. Next to a second wellness center, the yacht was outfitted with an extra crew cabin. With no less than 31 crew members for 14 potential guests, some extra lodgings appeared welcome.

3. Award Winning Superyacht…

This refit appeared worthwile: Faith won two World Superyacht Awards in 2018 in the categories Motoryacht of the Year and Best displacement Motoryacht 2000GT and above. Its design is done by British design firm RWD.

4. … But Is It Technically a Superyacht?

Definitions when a superyacht is to be called a mega yacht seems to vary within the industry. Some take length (either 60 or 80 meters) as a dividing line, some take 3000 gigaton gross tonnage as a decisive feature. As yachts grow bigger, the term gigayacht has also been introduced for ships over 100 meters. So with 97 meters and 2991 giga ton, up to you whether Faith classifies as a mega yacht or superyacht.

5. Faith A St. Maarten Yacht Rental?

Faiths owner is Canadian business man Michael Latifi, father of Formula 1 driver Nicholas Latifi. But you are unlikely to run into these celebrities as the ship functions as a privately chartered boat. If thinking of renting this behemoth with friends, make sure you are the first to claim the master cabin or VIP cabin and leave the other five cabins to others. In any regards, as this ship travels worldwide, make sure St. Maarten is on your itinerary!
