10 St Maarten Things to Do For Sports Fans This Winter
Are you a sports fan and coming to St Maarten soon? Our dual nation island provides plenty of fun ways to keep in shape – let us explore a few in a non-comprehensive list for active holiday fans.
1. Padel
As is the case worldwide, padel is one of the fastest growing sports on St Maarten. St. Maarten has even been hosting tournaments and VIP players over the years. As a still brand new epicenter, the best experience to lob your ball is on the original St Maarten court SXM Padel Club next to Little Bay Beach. It provides for an ideal combination of sports and a day at the beach, or even a visit to Philipsburg.
No need to bring materials; SXM Padel Club is fully equipped to provide you with your needs. See for contact information and how to make a reservation: SXM Padel Club.
2. Running
Two trails are most popular on St Maarten for those that want to start their day jogging. The footpath of the Simpson Bay Lagoon Causeway Bridge provides for a great, straight strip with a soft but challenging change in height. The second one is the Philipsburg Boardwalk, a run you can extend along pedestrian paths all the way from the cruise port to Divi Little Bay. From both the perspective of possibly hot Caribbean weather as well as crowdedness around the port and in town, it is advised to do this trail before 9am.
3. Kayaking
No more fun way to explore mega yacht hub Simpson Bay Lagoon and adjacent Kim Sha Beach than with a kayak! This activity is also a great combination with a beach day on Kim Sha or Simpson Bay Beach.
See for information on renting kayaks yourself , or check here for availability for kayak tours.
4. Hiking
If you are of the exploring kind, try the hiking trails of St Maarten either by yourself or in a group. A popular guided hiking route is that along the Atlantic Coast and the Natural Pool.

5. Swimming
There is no better place to go swimming than in the turquoise waters of a Caribbean island. If you look to swim laps in quiet surroundings, Simpson Bay Beach and Little Bay Beach might be your beaches of choice – but there is another 35 beaches to choose from!. If you are looking for a pool and your villa or resort does not have one, Prophysio has one for your laps overlooking the Simpson Bay lagoon.
6. Biking
On St Maarten you can rent bikes by yourself, but rest assured specialized company Tri-Sport has put thought into the most appealing and safe routes on island. From Philipsburg adventure tours to excursions exploring the binationality of the island, all is available.
See for availability of the Philipsburg adventure biking tour:
