St. Maarten sees Spike of British Travel Interest
Great British Travel Curiosity
We are not exactly sure what causes it – but Britons seem to get more and more interested in St. Maarten. And that is very welcome!
Could it be the curiosity driven desire to visit Caribbean islands outside the commonwealth? If that is the case, an island with a touch of Dutch and a feel of French but predominantly English speaking and to top it off Culinary Capital of the Caribbean, could indeed be a change of scenery. It could also be the increasing international desire to go island hopping for which St. Maarten / St. Martin is notoriously well suited as a base, with British Anguilla being only 7 kilometers off coast and reachable by 20 minutes of ferry.
Connecting to St. Maarten from London / United Kingdom
Whatever the reason might be, we welcome the increased interest of British travelers! Traveling from the United Kingdom to St. Maarten / St. Martin is easy, and only requires one change of flight at either Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) or Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to cross the Atlantic and arrive at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). Both Schiphol and Charles de Gaulle are well connected to London airports Heathrow, Gatwick and many more smaller ones throughout the United Kingdom, so this is prone to be a short layover at either airport.
An additional route is flying from Great Britain to Antigua, and to connect via local St. Maarten carrier Winair. Also, many British connections to St. Maarten via Atlanta, New York and Miami can provide an affordable option, but take slightly longer.
