United Airlines on the runway at Princess Juliana International Airport

SXM Princess Is Back

Princess Julianna International Airport

Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) in St. Maarten recently celebrated the grand reopening of its reconstructed terminal. The event, attended by Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, marked 80 years since the airport’s initial inauguration in 1944. The revamped terminal features modern facilities, including improved check-in counters and baggage systems designed to enhance the passenger experience.

Self-check-in for several major airlines is available again in the terminal, and outbound travelers can also print baggage tags at the check-in kiosks.

Among other innovations is a new security protocol that exempts passengers from removing shoes during screening if they are below the ankle, while higher footwear must still be removed. This change aims to streamline the security process while maintaining safety standards.

The Princess Sky Lounge is now open to all Priority Pass members. Non-members can also enjoy access for a fee.

The enhanced terminal features an automated border control system. Incoming travelers must complete the immigration declaration form online before arriving on St. Maarten, with kiosks available to assist as needed.

With its modern upgrades and robust recovery, PJIA is poised to reaffirm its role as a premier travel hub, strengthening St. Maarten’s regional connectivity and economic growth.
