What inspired you to pursue a career in the hospitality industry?
When I was young, I worked in a farmers market and bakery. Interacting with customers and working alongside a diverse group of co-workers inspired me to pursue a career in hospitality. After graduating college with a degree in hotel and restaurant management, I went on to manage a wide range of restaurants, hotels, and resorts in New York City and Long Island.
St. Maarten/St. Martin is known for its rich culture and blend of Dutch and French influences. How does this enhance the visitor experience?
The dual cultural influence enriches the visitor experience by offering a unique blend of European charm and Caribbean vibrancy. Visitors can enjoy diverse culinary delights, architectural styles, and traditions from both Dutch and French cultures. The fusion creates a dynamic and multifaced destination where every corner offers something new and exciting to explore.
What sets St. Maarten/St. Martin apart from other Caribbean destinations?
The experience of two islands and cultures blended into one Caribbean island makes it unique. St. Maarten/St. Martin is known as the food capital of the Caribbean with many different cuisines and outstanding restaurants, beautiful pristine beaches, and plenty of nightlife. The warm welcome, smiles, and hospitality the visitors receive from the locals make them feel at home. Our island is like an addiction—visit it once and you will be back every year.
Favorite hidden gem or off-the-beaten-path spot on the island?
One of my favorite hidden gems is the serene and less frequented Happy Bay. It’s a secluded beach that offers tranquility and natural beauty, perfect for those looking to escape the more crowded tourist spots.
If you had to describe the island in just three words, what would they be and why?
Family Disney World because there’s fun and excitement and something for everyone!
