On the Agrément Rotunda on the junction between Galisbay, Marigot and the road to Grand Case, one finds Lady Liberty. She symbolizes the abolition of slavery on French side St Maarten / St Martin on May 27th 1848. This was 15 years before the Dutch side would see emancipation of slavery. The statue stands for emancipation, liberation and freedom. It was unveiled at the 159th anniversary of abolition in 2007.
