At the border of the Dutch side and the French side of the island, the statue of Florian Eulalie Duzanson is located on a roundabout. Florian Eulalie Duzanson, nicknamed ‘Lalie’, was a woman who committed herself to bake bread and tarts for the poor. Together with her husband she owned a shop / grocery store in the neighborhood and cared for students and people, who came from Aruba to St Maarten. She also provided shelter for many people, especially in case of a hurricane. She is considered a national hero by many.
The statue is accompanied by other statues. One statue is of Jean-Frederique Brooks, called Tata The Bus Driver. The other one is Alexander Lionald Richardson, called Alec the Butcher.
