This statue on the Simpson Bay Fish Market is dedicated to the many fishermen of the Simpson Bay community. Until the building of this bridge, Simpson Bay was separated from the other parts of Dutch side St Maarten by a waterway. The old Simpson Bay village can still be visited by veering off Welfare road at the Simpson Bay Bridge behind the police station. An old church and various old houses still remember of the olden days of this fishery dependent area.
