Rejuvenated Philipsburg Boardwalk Ready for High Season 2024/2025
Since its opening in 2006, the Philipsburg Boardwalk might never have been providing as dynamic an offer as this winter, welcoming both cruise and stayover guests to new and improved experiences along famed Great Bay Beach. Here are some updates and recommendations for a great day in sunny Philipsburg this winter.
Let’s start with the newest additions. Brews & Bites is a brand new bar and restaurant with a commanding view over the central ferry pier from the cruise, Hodge pier. This former Hard Rock café location is now owned by locals wanting to put the island and its liveliness forward from a wholly new angle.
Still fresh too are the boys from Big Bastards – though they already earned a name as one of St. Maartens best booked beach bars. Explore, see that they are open to “big” as well as “little bastards” and you will get convinced humor and service go a long way in establishing customer loyalty.
If you are a frequent St Maarten visitor and you missed out on the opportunity to rent a poolside cabana at Seaview since its thorough revamp over the past years, better make up for it! A great base for exploring Philipsburg, experiencing Pelikaan craft beers – or just the beach and the only pool alongside it.
New sports Bar meets “Jimmy Buffett feel” Marleys is a 2024 opened home for those wanting to immerse in the Caribbean experience as described by the late singer – helped by an amazing view of the beach and Great Bay and the Buffett philosophy that it can be five o clock at any given time.
Next door Dutch Blonde Beach Bar provides another opportunity for craft beer fans – their Dutch Blonde Beer receiving an award. Did we mention the fact that they have opened the first Escape Rooms of the region?
The Pier remains a favorite Caribbean – meets – Dutch beach bar of those visiting scenic Walter Plantz square, an open air museum marking the end of the boardwalk. A location of choice by many locals to spend a full beach day – an important token of approval by connoisseurs.
Established, chic Ocean Lounge has profoundly redone its beach bar, another must-see for visitors coming back.
St Rose Beach Bar remains a haven for cocktail lovers, whereas adjacent Schnitzelhouse adds bites for those in need. As they closely cooperate, you can order an Austrian delight from the beach.
On the same square as St. Rose and Schnitzelhouse, take an island made Lucianos ice cream as a dessert!
Closer to the cruise port, locally famed Azianas still makes the regions most famous “babi pangang” – and much more. Let’s agree to keep this relaxing, quiet spot on the marina St. Maartens worst kept secret please.
The tavern on top of Rusty Parrot does not just offer a great panorama over Great Bay and the namesake pirate activity center, but also a great parking spot for exploring all above!
