St. Maarten Sports Bars
This month, the second most watched sports event in the world is on – the European championship football. Though football (or as Americans like to call it, soccer) is not as popular in the Caribbean as in Europe itself, there is many St. Maarten bars covering the event with a good cocktail next to it – the more as both St Maarten / St. Martin related countries France and the Netherlands have made it through to the next round. Be it for this occasion, or for more Caribbean sports like baseball, basketball or cricket, we thought it time for a roundup of great St. Maarten places to watch your favorite matches this summer and beyond.
1. HuppeldePub, Simpson Bay
HuppeldePub is a great bar with a Dutch feel to it. That however does not limit its scope to Dutch #no1 football (or for that matter its recent equivalent Formula1 as Dutchman Max Verstappen remains in the lead). Though the pub food might be typical Dutch (try “bitterballen”), this years Kentucky Derby got a considerable crowd. That says enough about the wide sports matches on display here. You find Huppeldepub in Simpson Bay Marina.
2. Amasterdam, Philipsburg
With a Dutch styled pub in the Caribbean with many nationalities as bartenders, whatever your sports is, it is on before you enter. Especially formula 1, football and cricket make Amasterdam bar a favorite location for sports lovers.
3. Replay Bar, Simpson Bay
Replay Bar below Simpson Bay Resort is the most specialized sports bar of the Pelican Area of Simpson Bay where it pertains to your typical American sports. Allows for befitting pub food or a combination with serious dining at neighbors Bovin Steakhouse and La Patrona.
4. Aziana, Philipsburg
If you want to combine your sports match with a scenic view, try Aziana on the Philipsburg marina, where the yachties watch their Superbowl. Though a match you look for might not be on the moment you get in, ask bartenders to put it on (they will) before a fan of a competing sport gets at it first.
5. The Pier, Philipsburg
The Pier, as a European Dutch owned bar, no surprise matches of the football team of “Oranje” are on. And all of this with a beautiful view of Great Bay Beach. Other matches can be watched too; if not on just ask if your desired match can be featured on the big screen behind the bar.
6. Dutch Blonde Beach Bar
Further down the boardwalk in the direction of the Philipsburg Cruise Port one day on a cruise, one finds Dutch Blonde Beach Bar. As the name predicts, this orange colored bar also gets the essence of June sports month – a large screen provides a great view of match details.
7. Most other places!
Many hotel or restaurant bars with a television in place are inclined to be of service when your favorite match is on. Ask the bartender what is possible!
