SXM TALKS: SINT MAARTEN: THE POPULATION INVITED TO CELEBRATE THE 160TH ANNIVERSARY OF EMANCIPATION DAY
Emancipation Day Celebration
The annual celebration of ‘Emancipation Day’ on July 1, acknowledges the date of the abolition of slavery in the colonies of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
With France abolition date being 15 years earlier, which caused many slaves fleeing despicable living conditions by seeking freedom resulting in the abolition of slavery in 1863.
On July 1, 2023 the program will commence in Philipsburg with a church service at 5:30AM at Backstreet Anglican Church.
