THE DAILY HERALD: TALL SHIP ‘SØRLANDET’ WELCOMED OVER 700 VISITORS ON SUNDAY

OPEN DAY AT TALL SAILING SHIP “Sørlandet”

Last Sunday, the tall sailing ship Sørlandet was docked at Marigot, Galisbay. The ship was docked at the commercial port of Galisbay regarding its open day for the public. The estimated attendees were over 750 people including VIP’ s. 

 

The open day took place because the original purpose of the ship is for education purposes and is off limits to unauthorized people. Originally the ship was built in 1927, which makes it the oldest operational sailing ship without an engine. In the present, the ship is used as an teaching faculty for high school students of ages between 15 and 18.  It can provide over 60 students who are originated from all over the world. The ship itself also sails to many location across the Atlantic like St Martin, Guadeloupe, Grenada and Puerto Rico, as well as the west coast of Europe and partly Africa. Apart from the students, there are also 20 professional crew members on board. Half teachers, half maritime crew members.
