THE ST MAARTEN CRAFT BEERS & SPECIAL BEERS FAN GUIDE!
The emblem of St. Maartens flag carries the adage “Semper Pro Grediens” – meaning “always going forward”. In line with this credo, on our small island you find no less than three inventive craft breweries with years of passion for brewing and reinforcing St. Maartens reputation as culinary capital of the Caribbean. In addition, our reputation as a duty free port and trade hub has led to a unique availability of special beers available per capita. Some not to miss spots on island for beer lovers:
1. Dutch Blonde Beach Bar
A great location on the famed Philipsburg Boardwalk to get a combination of local brews including the awarded “Dutch Blonde“, a Dutch pancake and an amazing view over Great Bay Beach. Tours of producer Caribbean Brewery can be taken in neighboring Pointe Blanche.
2. Pelikaan Beer
Though you would find its original beer garden and brewery in the Cole Bay district, Pelikaan Beer also has a stronghold on the boardwalk in St Maarten’s capital Philipsburg. That’s Seaview Hotel’s Beach Bar, with a great opportunity to rent a private seaside cabana to spend a beach day whilst indulging in a homebrew drafted “Tropical Session” Ale or a “Mullet Bay” Blonde Beer.
3. SXM Beer
The SXM Beer brand named after St. Maartens ICAO Airport code also holds its visitors centre meets brewery (meets pub!) in Cole Bay. For draft beer fans, its lager and IPA have a large local tap coverage so you find their products at your availability in many local bars fresh from the source.
4. AMAsterdam
Ask hidden Front Street gem pub AMAsterdam for their special beers on tap and in the fridge. Apart for some of the above local must-tastes, they offer beer specialties from the Netherlands and the United States in a bottle. And don’t forget to make a unique selfie when there!
5. Carrefour
Carrefour Supermarkets are definitely the place to be for beer lovers for take away bottles to your hotel or villa. This supermarket boasts the widest array of beers on island, both domestic and foreign.
