cruise boat of britannia with a british flag on it in the harbour of philipsburg

Today in Port: P&Os Britannia

As one of the most bustling cruise ports of the Caribbean, there is always an interesting vessel mooring in Philipsburg, clearly visible for all that pass by the capital of Dutch side St. Maarten. Todays highlighted cruise ship is P&Os flagship “Brittannia”. Enjoy and go see this frequent St Maarten visitor from Great Bay Beach or Fort Amsterdam!

1. Largest Ship in P&O Fleet

When Britannia launched in 2015, it was the largest cruise ship ever built for the British market, measuring 330 meters (1,082 feet) long and carrying over 3,600 passengers.

2. Royal Connection

The ship was officially named by Queen Elizabeth II in a grand ceremony in Southampton. Despite sharing the name with the former Royal Yacht Britannia, the two ships are unrelated.

3. Union Jack Livery

Britannia features one of the largest Union Jack designs in the world, painted boldly on its bow, making it instantly recognizable.

4. Foodie Heaven

The ship boasts a cookery school where passengers can take classes with top chefs, including famous TV chefs like Marco Pierre White and Olly Smith, who are part of P&O’s Food Heroes program.

5. Artistic Touch

Britannia houses over 8,000 pieces of artwork, making it a floating art gallery. One of its standout pieces is the stunning 3-deck-high Starburst chandelier in the atrium.
