Day Trips
The heart of the Leeward Islands, St. Maarten/St. Martin is surrounded by colorful neighbors; and you can meet them on a day tour. Just a few miles south of St. Maarten is Saba, a haven for travelers looking to get away from hustle and bustle. Anguilla is known for attracting the “rich and famous,” but that doesn’t mean the rest of us will be squeezed out by less-than-reasonable prices. Beaches are pristine, open to the public — and free. Then there’s St. Barths, an alluring tropical retreat with an abundance of sunny beaches and beautiful people. Great Bay Express, a high-speed ferry, offers regular service to most neighboring islands.
Don’t overlook the cluster of isles just off the coast of St. Maarten/St. Martin. On uninhabited Tintamarre you may discover the ruins of an airstrip, a small rail track and a cotton plantation. Accessible Baie Blanche boasts a delightful beach for swimming. Snorkeling, meanwhile, is superb just east of Green Cay. Aqua Mania Adventures offers a variety of island hopping and other day trips. You can also sign up for a sailing catamaran, powerboat or sailing cruise at Eagle Tours.
